Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of IWAO Etsuko’s new works. In her recent paintings, Iwao paints a grassy plain, mountain, sky, and house-like object. Those are not in definite forms they originally are and with floating feeling, there is a wonderful world as if a story will begin. Those motifs come from a landscape of Tama area where she was raised and everyday life with her family. Born in Tokyo in 1968, Iwao earned M.A. in art from Tama Art University in Tokyo in 1993. She received the grand prize of the Vison of Contemporary Art (VOCA) in 2000. Her exhibition history includes VOCA 1994-2003: Award-winning Works in 10 years (2004, Ohara Museum of Art, Okayama, Japan), Quintet II: Five Star Artists (2015, Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Museum of Art, Tokyo), and All our stories are incomplete / Colours of the imagination, Collection Exhibitions curated by Ryan Gander (2021, Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery)
