Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to present TOYOUMI Kenta’s solo exhibition entitled When the Sound of the World Disappears Entirely. Toyoumi uses traditional urushi (Japanese lacquer) techniques to make two-dimensional works unlike typical urushi lacquerware traditionally made in Japan. The white image appeared on the black surface of urushi is drawn by eggshells broken into small pieces. Eggshells are as small as a pointillist painting and the image is as fine as the microcosm seeing under a microscope. The black surface is polished like a mirror so you see yourself inside the work which makes you feel like you are looking into the microcosm inside you.
