Galerie Tokyo Humanite is pleased to announce NODA Hiroji's solo exhibition of new works entitled The Garden of 100. Noda’s consistent theme in his work is a relationship between a support body and expression by painting. A box-shape support body in the early 1980s changed to a linen bag covering the entire support body on which he places layers of canvas to create forms. He also makes a white flat surface on the support body and paint various forms freely. In recent years, Noda makes box-shape support body again with a divided surface showing unique forms and combination of colors using wood and linen cloth. In 2018, Noda started to make 100 works of the same size (62.8x47.7x6.0cm), concept and technique. He said that he wanted to see a new view by the large quantity of works which cannot be seen by the small quantity of 10 or 20. In this exhibition, 56 works are shown in The Ginza Space and 44 works are shown in Galerie Tokyo Humanite. Noda (b. 1952) graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo in 1976. In the following year, Noda had his first solo exhibition in Minami Gallery, a pioneering gallery in the presentation of contemporary art in Japan. He has exhibited extensively in Japan and his museum solo exhibition in the National Art Center, Tokyo in 2012, exhibiting works from 1981 to 2011, was highly acclaimed especially. He received the Education Minister’s Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists in 2001 and Mainichi Newspaper Price at the Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture for the collaborative work with a sculptor OKAMOTO Atsuo in 2005 among others.
